INDO-SKYTHIANS. Azes, circa 58-12 BC. Tetradrachm (Billon, 24 mm, 9.82 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in western Gandhara. BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY / AZOY King on horseback to right, raising his right hand and holding whip over his left shoulder; to right, 'La' (retrograde; in Karosthi). Rev. 'Maharajasa rajarajasa mahatasa Ayasa' (in Karoshti) Athena standing front, head to right, raising her right hand in blessing and holding shield in her left; behind her back, spear; in fields to left and right, monograms. HGC 12, 637. Senior 98.350T. An unusually sharp and fresh example. Slightly rough, otherwise, extremely fine.
